Street Photography?

Most of the time (nearly 99%) I am shooting in Black & White and also most of them are taken place in a City. Doing pictures in a City means much for me because I am a traditional ''City Person''. Most of the guys enjoy taking their Large-format camera outta of the god damn city and sit beside the sea for a whole day and enjoying for taking just one picture, I am just simply not that kind of person.

I was born in a city, and I am living in a city, this is the place I know the best and I love it, and I will choose it as the most important element of my photography work. I know most of the people call this ''Street Photography'' and I did.

But the funny thing is when I met the great MAGNUM photographer David Hurn last time, he asked me, "Young boy now tell me what kind of work you are doing for photography?". I told him that I am working on Street Photography. And then he got a bit angry and said "What the hell is Street Photography!? Will you call that Diane Arbus is a Street Photographer? But most of her works was done in the street. And also how about Bresson? Giving yourself such a title like this won't help doing anything for you.".

The true is, David Hurn is right. After that day I keep asking myself what I am really aiming for in photography, I need to remember that I am not a tourist who carry a camera and taking pictures randomly in London. I know that I need to focus on something, something that more deeper than the name ''Street Photography''.

Well, as I always said, I will work in a city and I can't leave that. I won't tell people that I am doing street photography now.  Or may be ''working photography in a city'' is a better term to explain what I am doing? But again, giving myself a title is pointless and won't help anything.

Anyway this is just a little something that I really want to explain for myself and thanks for the University can give me a chance to meet these great photographers.

So will you say these kind of pictures are street photography?
Yes may be it is, but sometime is better to leave more space for yourself to explain your picture that more than just a word ''StreetPhotography'' .

So lets talk about one of my on-going project which I call "The Wooden Black & White".
I don't like to keep things complicated, so I will use the easiest way to explain this project. You know I always love simple thing and you will also found it from the pictures I got in this project.

Wooden Black and White - 07
I don't know what you can get from this picture, and I don't want to explain everything on it because it is pointless. I can just tell you I am trying to show you different faces of different plants in a city. The one you may found it beside the road or even in the Ditch, which is the one you people always ignored and don't gave the love. And now I am showing you a different form from it.

Wooden Black and White - 10.1

Black and White pictures is such a amazing thing, because it don't have limit, at least it won't stop you to take that picture because the subject don't have a beautiful colour. I chose to made this series in B&W as I am always keep my black and white pictures in the same form(For me it is more easier.), and I know for the presentation these days one or two good pictures means nothing. I need to keep all the pictures in the same form as possible as I can, for making a great power.

Wooden Black and White - 06

P.S. This is a personal project so that means time and money is not a big concern, and of course we know plants can be looked very different in every weather, so.... I am planning to take years for this project and I am sure it will worth it.
