We probably will need to rethink about this question today. And may be it is time see some female photographers and seeing the different and the power within their photography.
川內倫子 (Rinko Kawauchi)
A young Japanese female photographer who well known in her "soft", "low contrast", "Quiet" feeling in her photography. Most of her pictures were done in square format(by Rolleiflex TLR). And she even created a trend to brought the photography world to mock her style of photography. And she also becomes more famous in the west now.
If you ask me to pick one female photographer who can really shows the "symbol of female" with photography. I will definitely say that will be Rinko Wawauchi. Because I can almost feel all the female characteristics in her pictures, and also showing women's mind too. Most of her pictures are so sad to me and her pictures are always about Life. The lives that she feel from her world, they all seems quiet but yet so powerful and have sadness within if you can feel and read her pictures deeply.

蜷川実花 (Ninagawa Mika)
If you say Rinko Kawauchi is the soft side of the women, then clearly Ninagawa Kika will be the strong side. Different from Rinko, Ninagawa's pictures are full of strong colour, high contrast and so much crazy within. She is also very well known in Japan and both Rinko and Ninagawa had both won the 'Kimura Ihei Award', a highest Photography award in Japan.
She also done lots of commercial work and even the movie directing work too(And Rinko Kawauchi seems more focus on her art photography only.). Ninagawa Mika not only successful to brought her own strong character in her work and movies and also create a strong successful life in her career too. No doubt she shows people the strong side of women from both her pictures and also her own life too.

I always love to give my compact camera to my girlfriend and switch it AUTO for her, and I can always get surprises from her. Because she can always done the pictures that I can never do. I don't know why, but may be most of the different from male/female on photography is most of us care too much on the skills and theory and once we learn them it is hard for us to not using and forget them. But from what I saw on most of the female photographers they all seem will put their own emotions in the first place for their photography. That's the different. (but of course there are always exception in this world.)
